German football great Lothar Matthaus will not become the head coach of Hungarian side FC Fehervar after talks between the parties broke down, the club announced on Saturday.
The negotiations did not bear fruit, the club said in a statement, declining to give further details.
The parties consider the details of the failure of the negotiations to be confidential, therefore will not disclose more information.
The 48-year-old former head coach of the Hungarian national team came to Hungary last Friday to discuss the terms of his employment at Fehervar after a prior agreement was reached on June 10.
Matthaus, who represented Bayern Munich and Inter Milan with distinction in his playing career as a sweeper and midfielder, was the captain of the West German…
Mali plan to become African Nations Cup party poopers a second time when they face hosts Angola Sunday in the opening match of the 2010 tournament.
The Eagles stunned over-confident Tunisia 2-0 in the 1994 curtain raiser with President Ben Ali so disgusted by the performance of the home team that he stormed out of the stadium long before the final whistle.
You only need to look at the calibre of players in this team, the body language, attitude and spirit to know we mean business, was the chilling message for the host nation from Mali coach Stephen Keshi.
I realise we are not among the favourites and large sections of the media do not believe we will even qualify for the knockout stage, but I beg to differ.
Our preparations have gone according to plan…
Barcelona star Neymar is setting his sights on a second Champions League title that he thinks would help to build his legacy at Camp Nou.
The Brazil international will sign a new five-year contract with the club on Friday after he has negotiated Wednesday s home Champions League clash against Manchester City.
Barca are two points clear of former boss Pep Guardiola s side at the top of Group C going into the game and Neymar understands the importance of winning the competition to shaping the success of a player s career.
Inspired by many of his team-mates who already have multiple Champions League winners medals, Neymar revealed he is desperate to get his hands on another after tasting glory in 2014-15 when Barca won the treble in his first season.

Everton have confirmed that Shani Tarashaj has been shipped out on loan once again, back to the same team that brought him up through the ranks in the first place Grasshoppers. The Swiss side are clearly keen to keep him on the books despite selling him to Everton back in 2016, with this being Tarashaj s second return to the club after a brief run back in 2016. The forward has struggled to make any kind of real impact for the Toffees since signing, with his knee injury last season ruling him out of any major movements in the Premier League.
Everton have certainly made some interesting moves in the summer transfer window over the years, but it still feels like they haven t really broken out into the mainstream yet in a big way this summer which feels like a complete 180 from wha…
Erling Haaland must consistently deliver over the coming years to be considered a Premier League great, so says Les Ferdinand.
Haaland scored City s second goal in a 3-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday, taking his total for the season to 51 across all competitions.
In the top flight alone, Haaland has now netted 35 times, seeing him break the Premier League record of 34, which had been held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, albeit that duo hit those tallies over the course of a 42-game season.
According to Opta, Haaland s league goals have come from an xG of 26, showing the brilliance of his finishing. Essentially, he has scored nine more goals than would have been anticipated given the quality of chances he has been provided with and the position from which he has…
Crisis club Portsmouth had their plans to sell players outside of the transfer windows rejected by the English Premier League on Saturday.
Portsmouth, seven points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table, have debts of over 60 million pounds (93 million dollars).
They also face a winding-up order from Her Majesty s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) over an alleged unpaid tax bill at a court hearing early in March that could see the south coast club go out of business.
This season s last transfer window closed at the start of this month and Pompey had sought special dispensation from Premier League chiefs to sell players now in a bid to ease their debts.
But Premier League chiefs rejected the proposal, saying in a statement issued Saturday: The Premier …
that Manchester City are set to turn to Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose as they look to fulfil their quota for home grown players for next season.
The reigning Premier League champions are set for a big squad overhaul this summer as they look to challenge for the title next season, with the chances of them defending the trophy this time around rapidly decreasing.
A number of English players have been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in recent months, with Jack Wilshere, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Aaron Creswell all on the club’s radar.
Rose moved to White Hart Lane from Leeds United in the summer of 2007, and has racked up just eighty-nine appearances in all competitions though he has spent much of his time away from the club out on l…
Chelsea captain John Terry believes team-mate Gary Cahill is the best centre-back in the Premier League.
Cahill has seen his spot in the Chelsea starting XI come under threat from promising France defender Kurt Zouma but, since vowing to silence his critics last month, he has nailed down a place in a team poised to win the league.
Earlier in the month former England manager Fabio Capello called on Terry who retired

from international football in September 2012 to return to the national team.
But Terry insists Cahill is the best option for current England boss Roy Hodgson.
Terry said: Gary is a big character. He was obviously disappointed to be left out of the Chelsea side a few months ago, but he has come back and taken his chance again.

The professional footballers union in France has warned against resuming the Ligue 1 season over a busy schedule that could put the health of players at risk.
Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 were suspended indefinitely on March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic, with France on a nationwide lockdown until at least May 11.
A report in L Equipe last week said organisers are considering restarting Ligue 1 on June 3 or June 17, with teams likely to have to play every three days to conclude the regular campaign by July 25 and leave time for promotion and relegation play-offs in early August.
Such a hectic calendar would lead to a greater risk of players becoming injured and risk games becoming less entertaining for fans, according to Sylvain Kastendeuch, the co-president of the…
Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien faces a great challenge of his international career when he captains Ghana against Ivory Coast here on Friday.
The box-to-box workaholic with the biting tackle and thunderous drive must inspire an injury-ravaged Black Stars side against the under-pressure Africa Cup of Nations title favourites in a crunch Group B clash.
It will be the second fixture in this restive northern Angola enclave where an ambush last Friday claimed two lives as the Togolese delegation crossed the border from a Congo training camp.
Togo later withdrew, leaving Ghana, Ivory Coast and outsiders Burkina Faso fighting for two quarter-finals places and the Burkinabe threw a spanner in the works by forcing a goalless stalemate with the Ivorians.
