A Timely And Exhaustive Preview Of The 2018 NBA Playoffs

Ah, casual sports fan: We meet again. The 2018 NBA playoffs begin this afternoon! How the hell will you know what is going on in the games, other than like a bunch of sweaty dudes bouncing a ball and throwing it through a pair of rings, if you don’t have some 10,000 words of preview and analysis to scan past in preparation??? I don’t know. I just know that if I don’t publish this blog, it will be hard for me to account for the last couple hours of my time. And for that reason and no others, let’s take a look at the first-round matchups! We’ll start out west, where the teams are good, instead of doing them in the order the games start, because that would make too much sense. The Uncomfortable Middle: Our 2015-16 Premier League Preview, Pt. 2

For the American sports fan, following soccer means a reorientation about what constitutes success. With the success of the top teams reinforced by Champions League appearances and an enhanced global profile, there is a virtuous cycle to being good that makes it even harder to break into the top. At the other end, there are newly-promoted teams made up of Championship quality players, and teams run by absolutely inept owners. Trapped in between we have seven teams, not good enough to seriously contend for a Champions League spot and in no danger of being relegated. The funny thing is, in some ways the worse of these teams will be judged to have had a more successful season. For some, just staying out of the relegation dogfight and remaining in the Premier League for another season is a s…

Some Cop Left Security Plans For The 2012 Olympics On A London Commuter Train

After being found on Jan. 5, the secret dossier was given to The Sun newspaper, which gave it back to the police. "Restricted" files spell out the security plans in place at the sites of events and provide minutes of top-level meetings in which ways to beat terrorists were discussed. A spokeswoman for London's Metropolitan Police downplayed the documents' significance. Translation: We're really glad whoever found this gave it to an honest news outlet like . [ FOX Sports] …

Hugh Johnson Project, Update 4

Louisville just went up 24-7 on Miami, Michigan looks to be pretty firmly in control of things, and I'm just going to leave you to enjoy those things… if you're the type that likes to see big-name programs get humiliated. Enjoy the big games tonight, too. • I liked Pam Ward a lot better when she announced under her real name: John Saunders. – Smitty (Alright, that is ENOUGH.) • My girlfriend is making me watch Jesus Christ Superstar on the Sundance Channel instead of the Michigan/ND game. It's suprising how little difference there is between the two. – Marcelo

A Simple Apology From Antonio Brown Isn't Nearly Enough to Get Him Back in New England

data-mm-id=”_lf2fg9w5z”>Somehow, some way, Antonio Brown has forced himself back into the news cycle. After the wider public eye had moved on from the troubled wide receiver in the midst of lawsuits after an unceremonious release at the hands of the New England Patriots, Brown popped back up again with an apology he posted on Instagram and Twitter. The NFL Playoffs Are About to Change Dramatically

data-mm-id=”_7rjelglb1″>The NFL playoffs are about to change pretty dramatically. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the NFL is proposing to add another playoff team from each conference. That means seven teams will reach the postseason from the AFC and the NFC, bringing the total to 14 playoff teams. Why is one extra team such a dramatic change? Because the league would then only award one first-round bye per conference. NFL playoff structure is about to be changed. Under the current CBA proposal, seven teams from each conference will make the playoffs, with only bye per conference, sources tell ESPN. It would go into effect this upcoming season. More coming on https://t.co/rDZaVFhcDQ.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 19, 2020Under the current transformational CBA proposa…

The Houston Texans Need to Finally Fire Bill O'Brien

data-mm-id=”_n5sobzk85″>After Sunday's 28-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Houston Texans have to answer one simple question: why is Bill O'Brien still employed? The Texans are now 0-3 after blowing a 21-17 fourth quarter lead this week. That loss followed back-to-back embarrassing showings against the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. After a massive playoff collapse last season and a tumultuous offseason, there is absolutely no reason for O'Brien to still be the team's head coach — and there's even less reason for him to remain the franchise's general manager. O'Brien is in his seventh season as the head coach in Houston. Despite a loaded roster and a weak division, he's never gone beyond the Divisional Round of the playoffs. His…

The Masters is Dustin Johnson's Coup De Grâce

data-mm-id=”_dhv66riss”>Dustin Johnson sauntered up the 18th fairway at Augusta National an exonerated man, knowing he finally and completely exorcised any demons remaining in his major championship closet. A golfer known as much for his close calls and crazy losses as his impressive power and significant wins, Johnson put an exclamation mark on his career at the Masters this week, winning his second major championship and first green jacket with a 20-under-par total that blew away the competition and rewrote the tournament record books. But more than etching his name in Masters lore, Johnson silenced all the doubters who questioned his ability to close out leads in majors. Previously 0-5 when he had the lead going into the final round of a major championship, and having suffered sever…
