Everton v Chelsea: Martinez ponders impact of Euro exit on visitors

Everton manager Roberto Martinez does not believe Chelsea needed any extra motivation from their Champions League exit ahead of Saturday s FA Cup quarter-final at Goodison Park.

The FA Cup is Chelsea s only remaining chance of silverware this season after Paris Saint-Germain left Stamford Bridge on Wednesday with a 2-1 win and 4-2 aggregate triumph to deny Guus Hiddink s men a place in the quarter-finals of Europe s premier competition.

Everton are also attempting to garnish a frustrating campaign by booking a Wembley visit, but Martinez feels Chelsea would have made for formidable opponents irrespective of their fortunes in midweek.

He told a pre-match news conference: It depends what way you want to look at it. If you are pessimistic, you ll say that Chelsea wi…

FA investigating Allardyce claims

The Football Association (FA) is investigating allegations that England manager Sam Allardyce used his position to negotiate a £400,000 deal and offer advice on how to circumvent rules on transfers.

The Daily Telegraph has footage claiming to be from a meeting in August between Allardyce and two undercover reporters purporting to be from a Far East firm.

In the video, Allardyce explains to the two men how they might get round rules regarding third-party ownership of players, which was banned by FIFA last year and has been outlawed in England s top flight since 2008.

Allardyce used the example of Enner Valencia, a player he claims was owned by a third-party when he brought him to West Ham from Mexican club Pachuca in 2014.

It s not a problem we got Valen…

FA has no plans to replace ´Three Lions´ as England´s World Cup anthem

The Football Association has denied reports that it plans to replace Three Lions as England s official World Cup anthem for Qatar 2022.

British newspaper The Sun claimed on Thursday that the FA is reviewing other options over concerns the song, which has been a fans favourite since Euro 96, offends other nations.

AC Milan director Leonardo said Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning is not possible, though he admitted the LA Galaxy striker was more than a thought for the Italian side.

The former Sweden star has netted 20 times for MLS side the Galaxy so far in 2018, and Milan reportedly made contact with the 37-year-old striker over a possible transfer.

Milan director Leonardo, however, cast doubt over the rumours prior to Thursday s 3-1 win over Olympiacos in the Europa League.
