Bitesize Prediction: Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday – 04/11/23

Market: Bristol City win

Odds: 8/7 @

Hoping to climb off the foot of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon, Sheffield Wednesday will make the trip to Ashton Gate when they meet Bristol City.

Starting with the hosts, while Bristol City might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign dreaming of the chance to mount a genuine play-off charge, the Robins find themselves in the midst of another recent rut. Last seen putting in a downbeat display as they slumped to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Cardiff, that result was enough to cost Nigel Pearson his job at Ashton Gate. Battling it out in the bottom-half of the Championship standings and almost sat in second-tier limbo, they have also lost three of their previous four Championship appearances. With it looking like their 1- victory against Coventry might have just been a minor boost, Bristol City will be desperate to pounce on a golden opportunity here. However, showing some extended issues in the final third and registering just a single strike in their last three Championship contests, the Robins have also scored just one goal at Ashton Gate in over 200 minutes of action.

As for the visitors, managing to claim what was an essential boost last weekend as they secured a 2-0 victory against Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday will know the importance of build on that result. However, while the Owls might have finally picked up their first Championship victory of the season, they still find themselves sat rock-bottom of the table and tipped as a runaway contender to be hit with an immediate League One return this season. Putting just six points on the board from any of their opening 14 Championship appearances, it is no secret that Danny Rohl has a real uphill battle on his hands. A huge part of Wednesday’s continued issues this season has certainly been their form on the road. Losing all of their last four showdowns away from Hillsborough, it should also be noted that Saturday’s guests have failed to muster a single goal on their travels since way back on August 26th.
